Jungle Trekking

Memories for life : meet the men of the forest

The Gunung Leuser National Park is one of the richest tropical rainforests in Southeast Asia.

There are river systems, volcanoes and lakes. This rainforest is immensely biodiverse, hosting approximately 700 different species of animals - more than 175 mammals, 380 birds, 190 reptiles and amphibians. The park protects a wide range of ecosystems, including tigers, leopard cats, siamangs, thomas leaf monkeys, macaques, rhinos, elephants, gibbons, reptiles and of course orangutans; as well as a huge number of flowers, trees and other plants. The flora contains approximately 10.000 plant species, including the spectacular Rafflesia Arnoldi and Amorphophallus titanum, the biggest and the highest flower in the world.

The main point of access to this impressive habitat is the village of Bukit Lawang, from where treks are organized to enable you to encounter the wildlife in its natural habitat. Unskippable, jungle trek is the main attraction in Bukit Lawang. Trekking has become increasingly popular.

While in the jungle, you should remember that you are in a very fragile eco-system and that diseases brought by humans are one of the biggest threats to the wildlife. Please remember that you should not feed the orangutans you encounter on the way and that no rubbish should be left behind. The rainforest is beautiful, by being responsible tourists and travel professionals we all make sure that we keep it this way.

While it is worth remembering that it is quite tough physically due to the very humid and hot climate and the often steep uphill or downhill terrain, don’t worry, it is quite easy to adapt the length of your trek to your physical abilities. Make sure you address any concerns you have regarding the difficulty of the trek with your guide so that he can adjust the itinerary in the jungle based on your set level of difficulty.

We can not give you the guaranteed to see anything in the jungle or that the treks are like how we describe them. Every trek will be different that has to do with weather season and customer needs. All tours we offer are with an certificated, English-speaking guide from the Indonesian Tourist Guide Association (ITGA). All prices adhere to guidelines from the ITGA. Our certified guides will guide you in a group of no more than 6 people or your own group has to be larger.

We recommend you to book the trek in advance. So you are assured that you are getting professional Guide. If you have booked a trek let us know about any important information such as vegetarian diet, children, older age or any special wishes for this trek.
